One day, a boy asked his father: Dad, what is the meaning of alternative?
His father thought for a while and said:
Well, son, imagine this. You've struck 4D and won $500 000. You use some of this money for charity, some to treat your family members. You're then left with some money and you decide to invest in a farm at Lim Chu Kang.
You consult your friends and family and finally decide to rear chickens as you hear that the market for chickens is bullish. You then bought 5 000 eggs and they hatched into 5 000 chicks. You watch the chicks grow up and the time comes to slaughter some of them and keep others for egg-laying.
But when you were about to do that, a flood came and all your chickens drowned and you lost all your investment.
Son: But Dad, WHAT is alternative?
Dad pauses and then answers: The alternative, my son, is ducks.
