Lawyer (to the witness): "Were you acquainted with the deceased?"
Witness: "Yes, I was."
Lawyer: "Well-acquainted?"
Witness: "Very well-acquainted."
Lawyer: "Was the deceased in the habit of talking to himself when he
was alone?"
Witness: "I don't know."
Lawyer: "Come now, you pretend you were well-acquainted with the
deceased, and you don't know??"
Witness: "I never happened to be with him when he was alone."
