I'm learning Chen Style Taichi Quan. My teacher place alot of emphasis on Zhan Zhuang. Be it Ba Gua, Yi Quan, Shaolin or Taichi Quan, zhan zhuang is of the essense and it take up to a year or two to cultivate.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Looks like a lot of people in sgforums learn quite a lot of modern martial arts rather than traditional ones.
Anybody training in traditional martial arts? Like at least 3 years to master your stances another 5 years to learn kicking........

Some call it Tibetan White Crane (ape n crane), some call it Lion's Roar, some say it came from central china, then headed west then north. The teacher I was studying with says it came from Tibet, then went into south China.
Anyway - it's definitely not one of my favorites, and seems to be quite unique. It is definitely a changquan or longfist style. Extremely circular (like many, but you just see it almost everywhere here). Pivots on ball of foot, with heel raising up n down often.
Quite an aggressive and quite unique from the bit I've experienced.
I will recommend number 2. Darren de Silva is well known in Singapore and many people sing praises of him.Originally posted by mma_noob:Ok Hi.I m new to this forum, i'm so interested in submission grappling or bjj. so i decided to look for school that teaches the art. I've done my "homework" n these are the few places that i've found out.
1) contactkinectis - Trainer Chris de wet .The class look quite ok so its my top choices.
2)mma academy - Trainer Darren DE silva (i wonder most trainer got DE in the name? sound quite fierce like wanderlei de silva)
3)will machno brazililian jiu-jutsu - appeared on chinese news few weeks ago. The ONLY purple belt in singapore.Sound impressive but don't know the trainer name
4)Jagsport-Trainer Kon (or Kong?) not sure cos my friend told me.
So which school is better??
