well... we won't know until we see some evidence of said competitions.Originally posted by samadhi_fire:So, considering that all the grappling/MMA schools are participating in these tournaments, what you're saying is that...... everyone sucks. =)
Will do, but I'd still like to find out the facts. There've been a lot of claims made, and so far nothing has been substantiated. It'll be good to see some facts to back up the claims.Originally posted by scabstermooch:If you are looking for a school, why don't you just take free trial lessons at the respective schools?
Even if one of them is the super duper uber grappler of doom!(TM), it would not mean much if you have a personality clash with the people at the school. Just go take the trial lesson and see which one you are most comfortable with, cost performance or otherwise.
Further, if you are coming to BJJ/grappling as a complete beginner, it really doesn't matter all that much which instructor is technically better; ALL of them would tap you on a whim.
Boy... aren't you a judemental one.Originally posted by Simon Dean:have you all been so obessed in prizes that you forget the true spirit of martial arts.
If you learn martial arts to become a fighting machine, one day you will just break down like a machine.
thunder_cracker, so what do you want us to do? Results don't seem to be out on the organisers homepage. Scan pictures of the medals? =)Originally posted by thunder_cracker:well... we won't know until we see some evidence of said competitions.
That's what i'm putting across... how do i know these claims are reliable without a single shred of evidence?
Besides general skill level, I would also look at the culture of the class. Being able to fit into the culture of a class has always been understated.Originally posted by NoRiceBoys:I want to know where a school stands in term of the general skill level of the people involved (I can't tell as a newbie) and competitions will be the best measure of this.
Its got nothing to do with you advocating Darren, its about providing insight.Originally posted by samadhi_fire:thunder_cracker, so what do you want us to do? Results don't seem to be out on the organisers homepage. Scan pictures of the medals? =)
That's my point. I don't give a flying f**k as to whether you're convinced or not. If you want to learn something, put in the effort. Don't expect EASY ANSWERS.Originally posted by thunder_cracker:without that, it would be hard to convince anyone online. not just me.
Didn't see this originally. If you're training with Chris, why the heck are you asking for evidence? All you need to do is ask him - he will know. His school has always been participating and he's friends with Darren.Originally posted by thunder_cracker:Besides general skill level, I would also look at the culture of the class. I've been training with Chris Dewet at Contact Kinetics (http://www.contactkinetics.com/photo2.html) for about 18months now. One of the things that intially brought my attention to that class, believe it or not, was the bits of self-depriciating humour used on the website. At that time, that indicated to me a crowd that had little hang ups, people who understood the importance of having fun while training. And true enough that's what i got when up turned up on the first day. since then I've always been having fun during trainning. I don't think I would have this quality of fun and training elsewhere.
ok.. relax... I'm not trying to put anyone down.Originally posted by samadhi_fire:Didn't see this originally. If you're training with Chris, why the heck are you asking for evidence? All you need to do is ask him - he will know. His school has always been participating and he's friends with Darren.
I see you're as free and bo liao as me to be up at this hour replying.Originally posted by thunder_cracker:ok.. relax... I'm not trying to put anyone down.
Yes i've no doubt Chris would know something about it. however the forum would be so much more powerful as a resource database if it had access to videos, pics, links, etc...
the forum can be a powerful research tool for newbies if handled properly.

you might consider using a wiki-engine. such as wiki-pedia.Originally posted by samadhi_fire:Actually, I always wanted to create a portal/directory for Martial Art schools in Singapore and then Asia, with reviews, tournament results and stuff. Idea was to go around exploring, meeting all the masters, trying out new styles, taking pictures and videos, etc. Would've been very fun doing it. Even bought the damn domain name... Still have it.
But, too lazy.
That's the thing isn't it. Forum's always end up being random bantering resulting in nothing substaintial.Originally posted by Albinogorilla:I agree with S-Fire.... So much talk about proof, spirit of matial arts etc. A fight's a fight. Since when did we have so many pussies in Martial Arts? It's a sport. Not a freakin war. And if you want video proof, you are on the wrong site. It's a forum for crying out loud. Jeeeeeeeeesus. Do you need to go on a forum to find proof? As mentioned, check with people in the scene, they will tell you.
Jessssssssssus man. Lighten up.
Funny you should say this since you were the one who started all the mud slinging in the first place.Originally posted by Albinogorilla:I agree with S-Fire.... But I do agree that training should be fun. Never been to darren's class and neither have I been to Chris dewets. But if you guys say it's a good atmosphere at those gyms, then it must be. Do I ask you for proof? Wouldn't that be ridiculous?
Jessssssssssus man. Lighten up.
Let me refresh your memory.Originally posted by Albinogorilla:Mudslinging? Who the hell was mudslinging? Was asking about an instructor. The mudslinging began when you pricks turned it into a forum on darren. That's when it began. You want mudslinging? Here goes. I think Jason an Kon are a bunch of wankers who have no idea of what they are doing and probably have rich families to pay for their belts. I think you probably learn from one of them and that's why are so defensive. either that or you suck their c#ocks for a hobby. And last but not least, I think your mum's a man.
