Lion Dance!

How many of u here are from Lion Dance troupes?
I used to be in Lion Dance when I'm in school as my CCA!
I enjoy playing the cymbals and being the Lion Head!
Anyway, noticed that schools' (secondary, ITE, Poly, etc ) Lion dance troupes dun teach u much Kung Fu at all? The most the Lion Head get to stand on the Lion "Tail's " lap while he's crouching. Unlike actual troupes where they teach all those advanced moves.
Today, I went to Taka and saw the Lion Dance contest... it was awesome!
Any of u here have any experience performing on top of the raised platforms?
Care to share your training experiences here?

Is it hosted by Vincent Ng and shown every CNY? Looks so painful when they fall from the platform..

It's the annual Lion Dance competition where the best troupes in singapore compete for the "Lion King " title!
Today is Freestyle contest, tomorrow will be traditional!
I think they call it "Northen Lion " and "Southern Lion " right?
Got a couple of falls today.
The worst was when the lion head fell and the tail tumbled along with him. I think one of the dancers got hurt and they had to forfeitt the match!
Btw.. u from which troupe ar?

Icic.. I'm not in Lion dance, I do wushu. Aiyo, so poor thing, train so long then kena injured, must be too stressed..

Most of the lion dances here are from the North, Southern ones rarely seen.

The winners get the chance to represent Singapore in international contests!
Personally..I think watching Lion Dance is more fun than watching those mordern dance contests -

I prefer playing cymbals cuz if u screw up, it wun be so jialat- there are usually 2 or more cymbalists during a performance but only 1 drummer! -
