I've noticed something weird. Original Windows XP from some computer brands still requires you to insert Windows XP disc before it can install Files for East Asian Languages. But some brands like Acer does not need the disc to install.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Go to Start --> Control Panel --> Regional and Language Options.
Click the Languages tab. Under the Supplemental Language Support textbox, is the "Install Files for East Asian languages" box checked?
If it is not, you will have to install it first. Alternatively, install a Chinese software. It will let you read Chinese words, but you have to turn it on every time before you can read it.
Don't know why. Probably they changed something so that you don't need the disc. Acer even lets you re-install without using the XP disc..... but have to do some things before you can do that. Very ma fan. Use disc faster.Originally posted by chanff8:I've noticed something weird. Really? Have been using Acer for the past 3 years but I dunno about that. I only know when you first buy it it'll prompt you to create backup CDs or DVD, which is the same as burning another copy of Windows XP disc for reformatting purposesOriginally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Don't know why. bought my acer laptop in sept this year. it came with a set of "recovery cd"... containing customised norton ghost and a ghost of the hard drive. so a XP "reinstall" is not really a install using original XP CD... the hard drive just gets overwritten with the ghost image.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Don't know why. acer keeps the XP install source files in a hidden folder on C:\ (if i'm not wrong it is c:\i386)Originally posted by chanff8:I've noticed something weird.
