Here's what you get for using VISTA:
V - Virus
I - Intruder
S - Spyware
T - Trojan
A - Adware
well, to be serious, i really dont wish for a new OS with better graphics, unless better graphics without the need of better config on RAM/CPU/gfx card.
I wish for a new OS that has improved on basic things, more stable without so many error reports(i dun use error reporting in xp, cos it's irritatiing, u report to there's error and the all the IE windows still close, so you may just close it without telling me, right?).
More compatible with more hardware, some gfx card with its own drivers works better, more tweakable than using Windows driver.
Better security, it's sick that every week the windows update website tells me i need another new patch to fix some secuirty stuff. Can you make a bucket with no holes, rather than making one with holes, than ask us to cover it one by one?Take up less RAM, press Alt-Ctrl-del can see so many stuff running......
more tweakable without the use of thrid party software.
nothing is perfect in this world. how much do you want your os to cost anyway? a thousand dollar?Originally posted by chanff8:Impossible when you have millions of codes to work on. Microsoft just refuses to re-write everything...
that's why i said i "wish" for such new OS. not i expect such new OS.Originally posted by chanff8:Impossible when you have millions of codes to work on. Microsoft just refuses to re-write everything...
sure. i "wish" it's free like java from sun microsystems.Originally posted by mochou:that's why i said i "wish" for such new OS. not i expect such new OS.
it's impractical to rewrite everything and come up with a totally new OS. think about the huge amount of time needed to develop, alpha test, beta test etc.Originally posted by chanff8:Impossible when you have millions of codes to work on. Microsoft just refuses to re-write everything...
I mean rewriting the same OS, not develop a new one. Their way of improving is adding more and more codes. I bet MS themselves are being tangled in the codes...Originally posted by Gordonator:it's impractical to rewrite everything and come up with a totally new OS. think about the huge amount of time needed to develop, alpha test, beta test etc.
not forgeting all those bugs etc that comes with new software. it is simply more feasible to just improve on the exsisting software.
According to Microsoft, it is supposed to, however you really need to wait for market responseOriginally posted by Gordonator:is better graphic and animation that comes in this new OS going to get my work done faster, make my system more stable, prevent harmful threats from invading my computer, play games without lagging, surf the net faster?

OSX is almost perfect, and far better than XP. What more, it cost less!!!Originally posted by YI:nothing is perfect in this world. how much do you want your os to cost anyway? a thousand dollar?
Millions of lines of codes, all inter-related with each others. Changing one of them will corrupt everything else. Thousands of programmers are needed as no single programmer knows how the whole system work.Originally posted by chanff8:I mean rewriting the same OS, not develop a new one. chain-reaction and butterfly effect. especially in software, u change something, u affect something else. so there's no such thing as perfect.Originally posted by chenc:Millions of lines of codes, all inter-related with each others. To re-write the codes is as tough as creating one from scratch

I agree with you! Totally Nailed!!!Originally posted by Redblood:well said ...
but they are not going to stop are they, THEY want YOUR $$$.
you must upgrade, otherwise the (x)tra (p)roblem will no longer have support and updates ... and did the latest Mac OSX churn out your adobe stuffs in half the time?
i keep an archive of old but trusty programs that are still usable on celerons. what the hell is the 64bit quad CPU +vista suppose to do when you are only doing a 16bit spreadsheet? have an AI TSR read your mind and render some xxx NURBS run around the desktop for your enjoyment? now that will be something wun it?

Just a month ago Microsoft announced that all MS operating systems other than XP and Server 2003 will no longer be serviced or supported.
Soon after Vista hit the market XP will go. You will be forced to upgrade. And you have to buy a new PC to run Vista as well.
MAc OSX seemed to me to be much faster and more stable. Also, believe me or not, OS from MAC 10 years ago are still being supported by the service team from Apple till today!!!
