Broadband in general refers to data transmission where multiple pieces of data are sent simultaneously to increase the effective rate of transmission. In network engineering this term is used for methods where two or more signals share a medium.
Various forms of Digital Subscriber Line service are broadband in the sense that digital information is sent over one channel and voice over another channel sharing a single pair of wires. Analog modems operating at speeds greater than 600 bit/s are technically broadband. They obtain higher effective transmission rates by using multiple channels with the rate on each channel limited to 600 baud. For example, a 2400 bit/s modem uses four 600 baud channels (see baud). This is in contrast to a baseband transmission where one type of signal uses a medium's full bandwidth such as 100BASE-T Ethernet.

I tried a few aztech models, I think aztech modem+routers are very unstable

Aztech modems are good. Never tried their router though.

the thing will either hang, connect/disconnect/connect/disconnect by itself, the DSL light will intermittenly start blinking giving false impression that line is problem, or the router software which claims to be able to do things like DMZ or port forwarding dun consistently do wat it supposed to. wat a lousy cheapskate product. -

DMZ sometime you want to expose all ports on a PC to internet for troubleshooting. The ideal is to do port forwarding. The things is 1 had 2 aztech both same models, both I configured to do port forwarding, one can do other just cannot. Then when I put both on DMZ, the one earlier that cannot port forward works fine with DMZ but DMZ fails on the modem that could port forward.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:DMZ? Why you want a DMZ? i use belkin. if im using the internet connection heavily, like MSN Messenger, surfing the web, downloading stuff at the same time, it'll disconnect around twice per hour... so far so good though, cos i placed the wireless router near my room

wireless ony 52mbt/sec. cable BB is much faster, 512k BB, download speed will be ard 256k or 70% of it, wireless for surfing internet ok lah. i using netgear.. so far so good..
have to reboot once in a while to reconnect the line tho sometimes.. otherwise its been a pretty good servant
