CD-rom,power supply,2 harddisk, spoil together

so i took the computer apart and tested their components individually on my other good computer and got the following:
harddisk 10gb, 10gb - both gives funny "geerrr gerrr" sound when boot up and cannot be detected on bootup
power supply - no power
CD-Rom - cannot be detected,and no power ( no LED light up on cd rom)
yesturday, all components of the computer was perfectly fine, but when i tried to boot up today, this is what i got.
Is there a virus that can do this kinda thing?
Anyone encountered this problem on their computer before?
Could this be some kinda electrical surge thatt fried the circuits?
How to aviod this kinda problem in future? i have 5 other computers with the same hardware configuration and wont want the same damage. -

yesterday when i tried to boot up at first hard disk not detected...then i restart then they say failure so i restarted another time then can boot up norsally -
smell ur mboard and power supply to see if there is any burnt smell. if there is it mean that component is spoilt. else replace the component back and try to start up.
if your harddisk give out some funny noise, i suggest you test it out on another comp by having it act as a secondary harddisk. if it cannot be detect or the same sound appear again that mean it gone or going to be gone.

Try changing your jumper settings on your hard disks before testing them out on your good comp

eh u must change the harddisk jumper to slave mode if it is in the master mode and make sure that ur master harddisk is in master mode with slave present. else it won't be able to detect.

It could be one of hardware damaged the motherboard and the motherboard in turn damaged the other devices. It happened to me. My video card was damaged, and damaged my motherboard. i dunno if new mobo can use such an old HDD 10Gb only or not....

yeah it still can detect and work but i dun think it can make use of the UATA 133 cable transfer speed.
