Are you editing videos or doing some graphics-intensive applications?
If yes, increase it.
If you are not, your computer's memory may be leaking. Memory leaking means a program oversteps its memory boundaries and will drain away the computer's resource. -

some CD burning software
thunder bird
i tunes
and some folders + textpad -
