Seems like alot of ppl having problems with MSN nowadays.
Is this the first time you log into MSN? If no, have you updated your MSN Messenger recently?
Try the troubleshoot.
Found the problem. Apparantly your version has a problem.New MSN Messenger 7.5 Update (Fixes for 80048820)

This new build of MSN Messenger has been removed because of a new 80048883 error that started showing up and prevented the use of build 7.5.322. The Previous version (7.5.311) has been re-added as the download on http://messenger.msn.com. We are investigating what we can do to fix the 80048883 error found in build 7.5.322.
A new version of MSN Messenger was released on http://messenger.msn.com yesterday that is an update to MSN Messenger 7.5. This new version (7.5.322) should help resolve many of the 80048820 errors that were occurring when signing into MSN Messenger 7.5.
Uninstall your current MSN Messenger, re-download and install from http://messenger.msn.com/ -

If time is correct, then this could be the error. Go to Start, Run. Type in regsvr32 softpub.dll in the dialouge box.
Exit MSN Messenger and restart it.
If doing this doesn't solve, open Internet Explorer. Go to Tools, Internet Options. In the popup window, go to Connections tab. Click LAN Settings. Untick the Use a proxy server for your LAN. Apply settings.
If none of this work, scan for viruses and spywares and update Windows. After that, try again. -
Check your system time and date settings. If it's wrong, MSN will not allow you to sign in.

how to fix it ah. the time and date suddenly got some prob a few days ago.. -

Double click on your system clock. Select the Time Zone tab. Change it to the correct one. Most of the time it is due to users changing the system properties.
If the time keeps going wrong, you have to reformat because something is wrong with your BIOS. Either that, update your BIOS. -

Sample instructions. Find out your motherboard's brand and model and go to their respective website and update. If don't know brand and model, reformat to solve the keep-going-wrong system date. -

heard of this... Theres a battery on the motherboard from what I've heard but didn't bother looking for it. If the battery dies, the timings will reset. So just replace the battery to solve it.
