Router problem?

  There's something wrong with my internet connection....
  
  I'm on StarHub and I'm using a router. I'll get disconnected quite often. The strange thing is, while my browser can't access any sites, MSN and Bittorrent still works.
  
  Any solutions?

  are you using zone alarm?? on and off your zonealarm. happens to me too, i have no idea why though

  MSN server is a bit slow when detecting disconnections, that's why you still can be online despite being disconnected.
  
  It could be due to router's misconfiguration, that's why you are disconnected often. Reset the router and have everything re-assigned again.
  
  If it still happens, try moving the router to another place. Could be something that is disrupting those signals. And move your handphone away from the router.

  actually my scenerio the msn no problems at all can chat and receive msgs etc

  Ya, it's a bit weird. My school cut off internet connections when got test, but I still can chat over the MSN and receive emails.

  My computers are all on direct connection and my brother configured the router to open ports so he could create games for his Wc3 and stuff. Does this have anything to do with the constant disconnections?
  
  Also, the problem could be solved if i just restart my router. But i don't want to keep doing this all the time. The disconnections also usually happen at night.

  MI is SINGNET BroadBand and its not wireless but sometimes it still gets disconnected. Anyone know the reason?
  P.s. also happens in the night.

  Ermm, opening too many ports isn't ideal as it will compromise security. It would be made worse by an unsecured network.
  
  Are you working or studying in the day? Is the computer in use in the day? If no, then someone probably found a way to your network due to those open ports and probably disconnect them remotely. Get a firewall to protect your network.

  Eh... this one is weird. Wired connections usually no problems with connection. Using those connecting to telephone one is it? This one don't have problems unless someone calls in, but they have a special telelphone filter to solve this problem.
  
  If using router but have wires, not quite sure. Try resetting everything back to default.

  Secure the network and get a firewall to protect your network. Tell your brother to re-configure it. Don't open too many ports. Only open them if he uses them.

  I used to have this problem with my SMC router as well. I was using Azureus back then with my SMC router for BitTorrent. I think it had something to do with too many connections being made to your router and your router just sort of hangs. Then il have to restart the router and everything will be ok.
  
  I solved my problem by switching to BitComet.
  
  And then later on i got myself a DLink Router + Print Server.
  
  Didnt have any disconnection problems. And when BitComet got banned in many private trackers, i switched back to Azurues. So far no disconnection problems.

  Starhub sucks ar? Could be. But most of the time, it's the end users. Like one of the forumer had posted, it could you all uploading and downloading too many things at one time, and it hung. Starhub does a lot of maintainence, but I have never seen maintainence done at night. So it could be user problem.

  oh, im getting disconnected in the day also.
