Internet connections problem

  I have checked my computer thoroughly for spywares and viruses, but it doesn't seem to help.
  
  The problem started after I had uninstalled a program called Internet Download Manager. It had expired, so I uninstalled it. I had used it before and had no problems with it. A system restore doesn't help.
  
  Any ways to solve it other than reformatting? I am using an ancient computer, so I can't back up before reformatting. Wanting to send all these to Gmail to backup, but heck, cannot due to connections problem.

  Have a feeling that...its the registry problem done by IDM...
  
  IDM also creates a backdoor...i last time detected it....
  
  i not too sure...could be a virus released from one of those ??? files created by IDM

  Modem perfectly all right. I even changed modem to see if it was modem's fault, but no.

  Never. Want to call, but don't feel like calling. Anyway, call now also no use. My parents now at home, if the technicians want to come, cannot check for problems. Also they work in shifts, I don't even know what shifts. Technicians will be fed up at this answer.

  Then they will prompt you whether to format or just overwrite.
  but still have to reinstall all softwares again la.. but your files are still intact..
  so, u have to delete those old programs lor..

  hmmm.. i don't understand your problem..
  
  so do you get connected to the internet at all? or is it you get disconnected always?after disconnection, are you able to reconnect?

  I can connect. But always disconnected. Sometimes able to reconnect, sometimes cannot. Have been like this for a week.

  if got win xp cd, jus insert then repair registry..most likely ur settings r messed up
