  No doubt encryption can be decrypted with the right tools. However, it is still recommended that one uses encryption, should your computer be used for business or study purposes. You don't want to lose your data, do you? MAC address is another good way to prevent people from tapping your network. A combination of both would be the best, but most of us don't really need both to safeguard our data.
  
  Firewall is also needed, should both defenses break down. Antivirus is also a must, it will help to detect backdoors planted by hackers. Nothing is invincible, the best way is not to use computer, but even then, there are ways to steal your data even if you are not using the computer.

  step 5. because u are only allowing stations to connect using MAC address.. u do not need an encryption key for secuirty reasons.

  Ermm, you are wrong on this. MAC address can be spoofed if you know how. You can't deter professionals from doing it. You can however, deter script kiddies.
  
  So, for added security, please use an encryption key. Although chances are that you won't meet a professional in doing such things, but don't be overconfident. Anybody with the right tools can do anything.

  ya.. i recommend bcoz its only a home computer ma.. so.. shld be ok..
  
  home pc usually have mp3/mpg files or games.. so don wan recommend him a troublesome method to setup his network..
  
  oh yeah huh.. i forgot about mac address spoofing.. read about it somewhere in an article..

  WEP protection is the best. You will need to enter a password to connect the network. Very simple to setup. Refer to your router's support website

  2) If they aren't, you may be in for some legal trouble. For example, they use it to hack other people, download songs, share files etc.

  The symptoms that your network is being used:
  
  1) Laggy internet connections
  
  2) Firewall keeps popping up for some unknown programs

  I not so free go hack, although I would do so. I only use it to surf, because if they are really tech-savvy, I am in for trouble.

  Some IBM ThinkPads have a problem with detecting wireless networks. Apparently there is some kind of hardware clash that causes it.
