home network problem

  Hello. I just set up a home wired network between my 2 comps, 1 laptop and 1 desktop. I am connecting a crossover between them and used the setup network manger in the xp to setup the network. The host computer, desktop, can access the internet but the client computer cant. I tried playing around with the IPs but still unable to correct the problem. Any ideas? I am using SH 2000...
