best is get the same brand plus same model...more safer...
p.s: the 2 cent thing u all talking about is the cmos battery...its the battery that runs you internal clock/date when u switch the pc off and save whatever settings you made to your pc...
and yes....it is actually a real battery...mine is the battery CR2032...though different comps may vary... -

You are right though, the 3rd is a nitrogen-cooled CPU ventilator, it incorporates the same cooling technology of an aircon, the copper pipes you see are the condensing pipes that circulates the nitrogen gas and the front unit is the mini circulator control pump.Originally posted by Gordonator:the 3rd picture above look like a air-conditioning unit.
Me had a same encounter as you, my P3 CPU fan die on me and the overheating of the processor would hang the PC while running cos the floating point of the processing core in the processor is very sensitive to high temperature, and when running multiple applications increase the temperature as the processor core works even harder. After me changed the fan, it was more stable and more or less back to normal operations.
As the CMOS battery, in an ideal and normal usage, it should last about 5 years, but there are some hardware theories saying we should change the battery every 3 years.

But it must be the same model of fan so that it can be fixed on. And they dun sell the fan alone with out the metal plates heat sink. Fans without heatsink are casing fan which is just a simple fan mount on the side/back/top of your casing. -

actually IMO bigsink small sink, when the heat flow stabilize, still you need to think of how fast the heat flow out of your PC case, not just the CPU part.
as for dead fan. try goto SIM LIM tower, not SIM LIM square. a normal brushless fan (those normally you see in PCs) at SL tower cost S$5, in SL square it is S$10+++
sometimes in SL tower if you run through those spare part shops, you will find a completely working original sink+fan for a cheap deal (S$5-30). -

A large number of shops in Sim Lim should sell fans individually

well, i aren't gonna go all the way to sim lim just to buy a fan, so i bought 1 fan+heatsink combo at my house downstairs for $15. everything should be working fine now.
