can laptop withstand long hrs of punishing use??

hey pple i juz got a laptop so i got some qns to ask those professional laptop or pple who got experience larh....
1st: how many hrs do u use ur laptop in a day??.......
2nd: wad is the recommended usage hrs b4 u let it rest or let it cool down??....
3rd: does a laptop consume more electricity den a desktop?
4th: wad can i do to let my laptop cool as efficiently as possible?.........

i dunno how to advise, can only tell you that my laptop is on for 12 to 14 hours everyday for the past 2 years... so far so good...

on the ave is abt 4 hrs depending on season of the year.. non exams ard 4
exam periods ard 7-8

desktop use more electricity ( imagine the powerful graphics card u use )

cuz b4 they sell they should QC it already.. and the temp issue should had been a design consideration when they make the lappy -
mine overheats
because it's using a normal P4 chip.. the HDD is going to die soon so i have to strip it open and put a fan beside it these days
it has to endure for at least 8 more months before i get its replacement, an iMac
it dual-boots xp these days -

1. I use it about 6 hours per day, can reach up to 10 hours or more on weekends.
2. Depends on what you do on your laptop. If you are doing tough multimedia work like 3D designing or video editing, its good to let it rest for a short while after every 3 hours or so. Actually laptops are tougher than you think and it'll run pretty smoothly as long as there is good ventilation or if you use it in an air-conditioned room. No worries here.
3. Nope laptops generally do not consume as much as desktops. Unless you are talking about the 19 inch giant desktop replacement laptop from taiwan.
4. Don't block its ventilation holes. Use it in a cooling area with good air circulation, preferably air-conditioned. Try not to block the base by putting your laptop on the bed too much or soft surfaces, since heat escapes from the bottom as well -

oh well.. it's only started to overheat in the past couple of months... after the HDD started to go mad...
but.. like i said.. endure for a while more.. then i get the iMac

been on rides on bikes and lorries
on over weekends and long hours at work
tiao lao before
except for once tt it has to go to the hospital to change m/board, everything else works fine

mmmm nope think laptops are quite hardy my fujitsu had been on for the past 3 months(barring some ocassional restarts) dling some stuff or another...

the load balancing of the dual cores is not very good yet
there are feedbacks on this issue for a lot of the first batch duo notebooks... -
I using a Acer 5512, and had it on for the past 2 days. No prob. More than 50 + hours already.
