External Hard Disk

i just bought a toshiba external hard disk...just wondering...since its a usb connection...i always plug it out just like that after use...i wonder will it spoil the long period of pulling out unexpectedly...

no.
but make sure u dun have any programmes or wadever using it when u decide to pull it out. like file transfer. otherwise ur hdd might be corrupted, burnt, etc. but even den, its not dat often dat it will really spoil.
things are more sturdy den it was, 5 years ago. -

Most external hard disks have LED lights to indicate whether its busy. Most of the time, slow or non-blinking green lights means the hard disk is inactive, it'll be safe to just plug out.
Only in Mac then you have to manually eject every external devices -

It's better to eject manually.
i.e. You installed Office on your external and you forgot to close Office and plug out. You might have to install Office again. -

if u are on older OS, usually there is a CD with driver for u to install

Depends on whether you only want the storage feature or database feature. Some like Sony can be plugged into your computer and will auto make database and backup, with a lot of protection features as well. I've seen a 3.5" external hard disk at Challenger Tampines.
$249 for 250GB. $189 for 200GB. Good prices, I must say. If you're not going to be lugging your external hard disk around, and you need lots of hard disk space then I suggest going for this.
I don't need so much, though. I bought a 2.5" 40GB external hard disk for $129 at Sim Lim. I just need it for backing up of some important files, that's all.
By the way, just remember to use the 'Safely Remove Hardware' function before unplugging the hard disk from the USB port, and it'll be fine. -
for those of u with external hard disk, u all bought those slim palm sized type or those big bulky type? got any pics to show?

I salvaged a 2.5inch one from a fujitsu laptop, put it in a casing and used it, nothing much, only 20gb.
