If it is not, you probably have not plugged it in properly. -

another thing is hor.. i realise the hub i buy is USB 2.0... dont know why the.. USB in my computer is 2.0 or not... mebbe too slow to detect?? -
try it on another machine if u ve one.
check ur devices in device manager to check for any sign
ensure ur plug n play service is up and running
do a hardware detect through add-hardware icon in control panel
if all above fail, get an exchange -

Go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools. Double click on Component Services.
Go to Services (Local) and select Plug and Play. Make sure the Startup type is Automatic. If it isn't, right click, and select Properties. In the General tab, find Startup type and select Automatic.
Regarding your second question, USB 2.0 is faster than USB 1.0 or 1.1. If you are using either USB 1.0 or 1.1, it would show this prompt:

i realise the HUB can detect my printer USB port
but can't detect my external har ddisk and thumb drive one.... why hahhhh -

if pc port is usb 1 .. sometimes it wont work with device with usb 2 -

thing is.. if i plug my hard disk DIRECT into the USB port of the computer.. it works
If i plug it to the USB HUB it doesnt work
But my printer workd when plug into USB hub...

so issit mebbe my hard disk is 1.0 and my USB HUB is 2.0.. mebbe tts why?! -

And depending on how old the PC is, USB ports may not be shared. That is, once that USB port is being used for something, no matter what you do, you probably won't get it to start. -

If yes, make sure the card is plugged in properly.
If your hard disk uses USB 1.0, and your USB hub is USB 2.0, it should still work as USB 2.0 is backward compatible with USB 1.0
