Storage device problem?

  Continuing from my previous topic
  
  when i plug in my portable hdd the com will hang, but den i borrowed a card reader from my friend and plug in my com also hang. So i concluded that is my com's problem with storage devices, but can anyone pinpoint wheres the problem, i really dunno how to solve this. Really need u guys help is quite urgent. Arigato

  Your portable HDD is USB? Likely that your USB port is not supplying enough power to your HDD, try getting an external 5V adapter to plug into your HDD then plug in into your computer...

  There has been some updates for USB ports for Windows XP. Update XP first, and plug in. If you are still facing the same problem, most likely there is not enough power. Do as others suggest, buy a power adapter for it.

  but all along i have no problem with my usb hdd leh, den suddenly one day without any reason it hang. Can anyone post a link to dl the update i cant find, and does it need sp2 or not? i canot use sp2 wan internet will screw up.

  how much u buy the hard disk? do u still have the receipt? worse comes to worse, bring it back to the shop and change for something else.

  is not my hdd problem is my com, my friends hdd also dont work on my com, so i was wondering anyone here know the solution? like some driver or smthng

  Brand of HDD please. Don't think you need SP2 to update the USB ports, you can select which updates you want.

  try re-install ur :
  
  start-control panel-system-hardware-device manager
  universal serial bus controllers.
  click the + sign.
  
  thn uninstall everything inside the + sign. thn restart.
  if stil cannot.
  software conflict
  thn do system restore, if still same thn byebye
  format ur pc.
