how do you guys choose desktop speakers?esp 5.1 surround

maybe shld have a gadget forum to talk about new mp3s,mp4s and media players etc....(just a comment)
how do you guys choose the ideal 5.1 desktop speakers for mostly music playback (mp3s and concert dvds) esp those heavy techno where good bass plays an important role.Im running X-fi extreme music.Considering all factors power consumption,price and quality sound output.After much study, I have 2 sets in mind -

But if you insist on getting a 5.1. Then first one is enough. -
go to the showrooms and hear for urself
creative speakers are generally ok
can try Bose if u like....
and oso Altec Lansing....
