about bitrate.....

  i heard people saying that if the bitrate of a music file is decreased , the sound quality drops...but how to distinguish the difference ? oni through a mp3 player??

  theorically some say yes but depends on the type of sound..(speech, vocal cord, music, instruments, nature sounds etc).

  i think Nero has a aoftware programe that can rip mp3 and convert its bitrate...it has been quite a while since i last hunt for it and i am using Catwalk Pyro since then so i guess there may be other names out there that have software that does just that...mayb others can provide a link or two.
  
  changing bitrates of mp3s is no longer a job that you can only perform with high tech equipments

  64 kbps and 240 kbps the sound quality can be distinguished very easily.

  but lower bitrate definitely has a smaller file size and is very useful over the inertenet or in times when u need to exchange info in mp3s over the web or email.
  
  e.g if u hav conference called a meeting and recorded the contents..u wanna send it over the email asmall attachment at 32 or even 8 kb/s good enough rite?
  
  as for music u wan higher br cannot say worng...or if u can tell the differnce also cannot say wrong
  
  but the standard is 128kb/s lah i think, even for most music file in mp3 format

  Blast a 64kbps and a 128 or 192kbps music file. The 64kbps will sound a little flat... You'll definitely tell the difference.
  
  128kbps is good enough for mp3s. If you're an audiophile, 160kbps should be your preference.
