The biggest prob in reformatting, plz help me,as usual....

So, can anybody take some time to type out the steps to reformatting a computer?? Then i wouldnt have to pay the com guy $$

1. Insert Windows CD
2. Boot up the computer
3. Wait for it to load
4. Select reformat PC from the screen that pops up
5. They'll ask whether you want to change partitioning. If you've partitioned your hard disk into 2 parts and wish to retain your data on the second part, don't change any setting and move on
6. Wait for it to reformat
7. Done? -
its better if you could format your hard disk using ntfs

btw u know how to boot up from cd? -
boot means to start up using ur windows cd. when u reformat your harddisk, you will be asked whether u want to format using ntfs or FAT32. its just a system file type.
pirated windows cd can still be used, just that u cannot check for online updates for your windows

put xp cd inside.
restart com
then i think the com will say 'press any key to boot from cd' or sth like that -

2) at that screen look right below for this sentance:
"Press "DEL"(or any other key) to enter BIOS"
3) after you enter BIOS, browse through all the menus and look for an option for you to change the "Boot Sequence" to "CD-ROM first" instead of C:
4) then after that, load your winxp cd in and "Save Changes and Exit"
5) when your comp reboots again after the "first screen", you should see something like "Press and key to enter windows setup".
6) Press Enter or any key at that screen and the windows setup screen will appear and follow instructions from there -

1. Only when its impossible to remove the viruses/spywares completely. Some people reformat because after a few months, most windows PCs will slow down due to the number of applications installed. 2. Yes, you are recommended to backup all important data as all data is removed or overwritten when you reformat the PC. Even if you have files on another partition, its best if you can spare some time to backup those as well. Theres a slight chance that the other partition is affected by the reformatting and causing you to lose files.
3. Reformatting only resets your computer, meaning all the viruses you have now will be cleared, along with your files and installed applications. Reformatting is not vaccination. You should install antivirus applications and firewall straight after formatting, before you get connected to the net. -

Then wad if there r viruses in my back-up files...then when i put those files into the newly reformated com, wouldnt it be infected too?? -

haha, but my com fixer always tell me bout norton as if its indestrucable....everytime i say i got virus he wld say, use norton and scan lo, after that if no virus then ure safe....lol

all he knows are the mainstream brands nia
how bout i send u a virus and see if ur norton can detect it?
