i translate for you...Originally posted by troublemaker2005:There are usually a few tiers of access to company files or information.
The website of the company is accessible to all internet users with the supported web browser. It usually holds general information about the company and her prodcts and services. In addition, the supply chain had also come up with a convenient way for customer/ enquires to be made through websites that put up products/ part specifications/ data sheets or drawings offered by companies or the representatives of their products.
Most MNCs that have branches all over the globe have the Intranet service. It is just like the internet but can only be accessed by the MNCs and coporate branches alone. In it also in this network that the employees of the companies worldwide work and exchange work information. Coporate Licensed software like MRPs (SAP, Oracle etc), CAD (Pro-E, Solidworks/Edge/ ACAD etc) and other confidential info (Account records and Bill of Material) are installed and password managed by every section/ department.
Unless you are working for a certain government agencies/ statuary boards that allows some of the higher ranking officials/ managers to access the network from computers other than thase placed in their office if not it is virtually impossible for you to access your company files from home.
If you are have the correct hardware, software skills and knowledge you can hack (or rather 'crack'). If you have the clearance level you can gain access. Otherwise you can work at home and transfer your work to your office computing hardware the following day.
there are many barriers in the thread starter's case:-Originally posted by R3SsH|n:i translate for you...
if your company spend alot of money on your computer system...then most probably u can...if not...cannot...
Using VPN is not difficult. But if you are talking about other means, then maybe. It depends on your company's admins configure the Windows NT server.Originally posted by hoganrock:difficult?![]()
If he is one of the higher ups, I'm not too sure.Originally posted by hoganrock:My friend wishes to access office files store in the network server online (internet) by searching with USERID and PASSWORD during the weekend when he is at home. How to do it? The office is using WINNT Server.
Thanks![]()
in short i think what his friend need is authorization, permission and a good reason too.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:If he is one of the higher ups, I'm not too sure.
But if he's any other normal employees, for his info, he will be breaking the law.
He, can at his own risk source out the hashed passwords stored at one of the servers, or crack the admins' passwords and gained root access to the Windows NT server, if that's the only server that your company has.
If there are more servers than this, he will have to cross department to get the user ids and passwords, to access the different files stored for different departments. Every department has their own access permissions and only those from that department can access it. Usually higher ups are able to view almost everything except editing it.
he has authorization, permission and a good reason and he want to setup the system for his staffsOriginally posted by troublemaker2005:in short i think what his friend need is authorization, permission and a good reason too.
Then there's no need to for knowing user ids and passwords. Unless he's been given the title of an administrator, he can pass this job to his department's administrator to do the job.Originally posted by hoganrock:he has authorization, permission and a good reason and he want to setup the system for his staffs![]()
basically my company have their own IS department...when our senior staff have all the reasons, authorisation and approval the IS department takes over and do the rest. it will involve the affected staff if the IS department feel that they need to conduct taining/ briefing on the use for any changes to the system.Originally posted by hoganrock:he has authorization, permission and a good reason and he want to setup the system for his staffs![]()
will it costs a lot to setup? he's from the IT Department (small company), that means handling all the tasks setting up of remote access...Originally posted by troublemaker2005:basically my company have their own IS department...when our senior staff have all the reasons, authorisation and approval the IS department takes over and do the rest. it will involve the affected staff if the IS department feel that they need to conduct taining/ briefing on the use for any changes to the system.
smaller companies (or companies without their own IS department)usually have their own computer systems set up by an external service vendor. your friend should seek proffessional advice from an external computer/ network service vendor. otherwise he can also try ITO's gotomypc.com.
if your friend's not with the company's IS department or the immediate department handling IS staff, its time he start communicating with one. if your frined's in the IS or related department he should know what to do in the first place.
thanks.Originally posted by troublemaker2005:Cost is just one thing besides a good reason to justify the action of the need for one or more or every employer in his company to have access to the company's network other than within the company premises and outside office hours.
If the setup requires a thrid party involvement in hardware installation/ modification or software upgrade/ add-ons, trust of the source is equally important.
Take a small company for example. I used to know one that have less than 50 employees. Basically they do not have an IT department. The admin/ HR/ Finance department handles all the liasion with an external networking provider. They watch over the overall network setup while the provider ensues maintenance to the system and trainings/ briefing on certain aspects of the system connetivity and usage. The details and scale of it are usually covered in the contract. Of course if mac or windows screw up the users can troubleshoot with their own knowledge but when it comes to connectivity problems or other major network issues the providers are called in.
Bigger companies like MNCs usually have their own IT dedpartment to handle this. The department will have experienced personel to handle problems and issues at networking level. system troubleshooting and computer/ hardware setups are usually done by the guys from within the department. Even if you have problem executing a function in windows or Mac, you can just call up the IT department externsion and they will help you out. However whatever modification or hardware not proposed/ authorized or owned by the company is prohibited for use within the premises as stated in part of the company's rules and regulation.
I am sure forumites her would like to know a little more about what your friend's company does and the scale of usuage intended for the remove access (like how many employees are afected by this change) before recommendations can be made/ suggested.
