Netgear wireless router unable to establish internet connect

  Hi, Im a newbie in tis networking stuff. Recently I juz bought a netgear G wireless router model wgp614 v.6. I followed thru the steps in the cd connecting my ethernet modem to router & router to pc but Im not able to connect to Internet. Ive done it a few times & still no connection. My ethernet modem lights & router lights are all lighted up correctly as shown in the troubleshooting guide & stable so I was wondering what went wrong. I have no knowledge abt networking & am desperate for help! Because I cant establish internet connection on my desktop, Im stuck & thus unable to configure my wireless connection to my laptop. Kind souls out there.. pls pls help me..

  Have you contacted Singnet or Starhub for an internet account?

  I already have a broadband internet account wif Singnet. I have no problems connecting to internet if using my ethernet modem directly but once I connect to the router there's no connection at all.

  yup.. after i on my router i went to the website but page not displayed as there's no internet connection

  mayb try taking it to the dealer? cos my 1 same situation as u after taking back to dealer n explaining the situation to him den he say he will take care abt it n after a few days, can online liaoz

  Is this broadband wireless?
  
  If it is not, then there's no way you can get internet access, until you sign up with Singnet for a wireless plan. They will give you certain things that will allow you to connect to the net.

  but some of my frens having the same connection as mine. they did not sign up for any wireless plan leh..
  
  coz i only have 1 desktop pc (wired connection) at home.. the reason im connecting to wireless router is because i also wanna be able to connect wirelessly to my laptop at the same time.. so that when my brother is using the desktop pc to surf, i can use my laptop if i wanna surf at the same time..

  I don't think that's possible, because your ISP will need to assign you an IP address, of which you have to enter and thus able to surf the Net.

  Questions:
  
  Is the modem connected to your desktop computer?
  What is your supplied modem from SingNet?
  Did you try installing the drivers for your NetGear router?
  Is your cable looping sequence correct?
  Is your laptop wireless enabled?
  If your laptop is not wireless enabled (not a Centrino), did you buy a USB WLAN adapter or WLAN PC Card?

  you must set your userid and password in the router web settings...
  
  reset your modem to default with no userid or password ...
  
  with cable:
  do a ping to your router to see if there is resond ( click start > Run > type "cmd" and click ok > type ping "your router IP" example ping 168.123.14.180
  
  reset your com IP type ipconfig /renew

  i assume u are not using non static IP
  
  1. check that the lappy wireless adapter is on and working properly
  2.make sure that both wireless adapter and wireless moden support the same networking type. eg: both wireless G
  3. check that ur wireless moden assign IP address lappy..
  4. check that u have ur internet protocol (TCP/IP) obtain IP and DNS address automatically
  6. check that u have delete all the internet connection settings in internet explorer.(properties>internet option>connections)
  5. check that the data transmission rate from router to wireless adapter is auto.
  6. check the cabls are connected correctly
  7. check that u tap into your network
  8. check that the signal strength is not 1 to 0 bars
  9. check that wireless modem do have wireless mode activated.
  10. check that you do not have mac filter enabled in your wireless modem

  Hi,
  
  After connecting to the router, at DOS Prompt i typed ipconfig to get the ip add & i got:
  
  IP Add: 192.168.1.2
  Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
  Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
  
  Then i ping to default gateway 192.168.1.1 & i got:
  
  reqst timed out(4 times)
  ping statistics for 192.168.1.1:
  packets: sent=4, received=0, lost=4(100% loss)
  
  I also tried to ping to IP Address 192.168.1.2 & i got:
  4 replies received
  ping statistics for 192.168.1.2:
  packets: sent=4, received=4, lost=0(0% loss)
  
  When i typed IP add & default gateway on IE, page cannot be displayed
  
  I dunno wat else to do as tis is the 1st time im connecting to router & im not IT savvy

  what's your ethernet modem brand and model...u only provide one netgear brand...it seems like u are connecting 2 routers between your PC and your ISP.
  
  i dunno usually ppl using a switch between the PC (client/ host) and the router...then the router goes out to the Internet.

  Are you sure about the IP address? Coz Netgear usually uses 192.168.0.1?
