updates.Originally posted by manyu882:i heard that singnet always get frequent dc usually during peak hours(at night). anyone knows the reason behind it?
I believe that every internet cables etc owns by singnet.. but one thing that make me confuse... on some occasion, until now ,when singnet user connects to starhub user or vice versa, there tends to have losss packets in between them.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Unless each ISP has their own lines, otherwise expect it to fail horribly.
The only exception would be Singnet, because all the cables are theirs. The rest, are leased from Singnet. So if Singnet sucks, the rest would suck too. To make it better, must see how each ISP handle already.
For me, Singnet handles things quite well, except their customer service.
That's why I said to make it better, it depends on ISP itself already.Originally posted by manyu882:I believe that every internet cables etc owns by singnet.. but one thing that make me confuse... on some occasion, until now ,when singnet user connects to starhub user or vice versa, there tends to have losss packets in between them.
eg. when i play warcraft3 online, the host is is a starhub user, and the players are singnet user. the whole thing lag cos packets were not recieved from each other.
when i ping my friend's I address, i get some request time out after 5-10 sucessful pings
if all ISP's lines, cables etc.. are own by singtel... wouldn't it be not laggy?
As of now, all the lines are Singnet ones. Few years down the road, Starhub will have its own lines.Originally posted by Ito_^:singnet and starhub lines different.. am i right?

One doubt.. i'm not good at ADSL technology.
about pacific internet..
my friend got a problem recently that.. he always can't get into the internet for the past 3 weeks during peak hours and weekends.
when he can't access totrhe internet, i found that the IP address assigned to his adapter is 10.0.0.6(fyi the DHCP is 10.0.0.2). why the ip adress so nice one? i tot it should be 2xx.xxx.xxx.xxx. and maybe cos of this, he can't connect to internet? cos the DHCP sv has no more IP address to assign???

couldn't be ba.. cos.. he can access during non peak hours.. if tyco, sometimes peak hours can use.. but dc frequently. the ADSL LED kept flashing while in disconnected mode. so maybe got to do with the DHCP sv? he got his internet directly connected to the modem. it has been happening since 3 weeks ago.. if he change some settings den.. maybe he can't access all the way.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:You stalk me?
Female by the way.
By updates, it means the server is refreshing. Singapore don't assign static IP addresses to users, but dynamic IP addresses. As most of us come online at night, the server needs to cope with the heavy usage.
The server also refreshes every few hours to re-assign IP addresses to users who have not disconnected from the Net.
Adapter IP address is one thing, the one assigned to the user by the ISP is another one. Adapter no IP address, how you configure? Same goes for router and modem.
And IP address need not to start 200++. It can be anything from 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255, although technically not all IP addresses can be used.
DHCP won't run out of addresses to assign. Your friend could have changed some settings in the PC to result in this.
+1 hereOriginally posted by FireIce:all have their own praises and problems lah
jus pick the one tt suits ur usage and wallet
DHCP is only responsible for assigning of IP addresses. If he disconnects frequently, it's either some settings that are not right or there is some problems with the connections.Originally posted by manyu882:couldn't be ba.. cos.. he can access during non peak hours.. if tyco, sometimes peak hours can use.. but dc frequently. the ADSL LED kept flashing while in disconnected mode. so maybe got to do with the DHCP sv? he got his internet directly connected to the modem. it has been happening since 3 weeks ago.. if he change some settings den.. maybe he can't access all the way.
the Ip address assigned from the ISP is 10.0.0.2.. and according to this http://www.hackingspirits.com/cyb_forensic/fsic_articles/loc_place.html
the Ip number doesn't fall into Singapore's Ip number range. first time ive seen such a thing.. does it happen to anyone of u?
