Takes A Very Long Time To Shutdown!!

  Whenever I go to Start, Turn Off Computer and click,
  
  my mouse cursor will turn into the hourglass icon. Then it will remain like that for about 5 mins or so before the Shutdown/Restart/LogOff menu appear.
  
  Now whenever I wanna shut down, I will do it from ctrl alt del then sutdown from there.
  
  What is wrong ar??

  i off my computer using the on button. so fast, it offs in 5 seconds.

  Using Fast Switching ability in XP?
  
  If yes, it takes a while to log off all users before shutting down.

  1) Start - Run - Regedit
  Navigate to the following Registry key:
  HKEY CURRENT USER\Control Panel\Desktop
  Double click on the AutoEndTasks entry and replace the 0 with a 1 in the Value data text box
  
  For the next two, if the dword value indicated does not exist, create it:
  
  Double click on the WaitToKillAppTimeout entry in the right pane and change the Value data to 2000
  
  Double click on the HungAppTimeout entry in the right pane and change the Value data to 1000
  
  Reboot
  
  If still having a problem, make the next change:
  
  2) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
  Right-click on WaitToKillServiceTimeout and change it to 2000
  
  NOTE: The lowest value Windows will recognize is 1000 (1 second)

  happens to me sometimes. most of the time i just switch off the power.
  
  i know it's harmful to do that as the harddisk might still be writing data but i can't stand around whole day to wait for it to shutdown.
