Standby / hibernate

  My laptop is unable to standby and hibernate... Although restart and shut down is alright. Anyone knows what's the problem? I tried pressing the Fn + F4 as well as from the start button. But both also not working.
  
  How can I fix it? Thanks!

  lol.. maybe ur laptop cant support? my pc hangs when it trys to standby

  Sorry. My laptop is new. Less then 1/2 a year.
  
  It's the Acer Aspire 5670.
  
  Here's the specs:
  
  Intel Core Duo processor T2300 1.66GHz
  1gb Ram
  100GB HDD
  
  Btw, I don't think it's because of low memory right? My C drive still have 2 gb of space.

  You can't hibernate because there is not enough hard disk space on your laptop. Hibernation uses the same amount of hard disk space as your RAM.
  
  In your case, you have 1GB of RAM, which means 1GB of hard disk space will be used for hibernation. This will leave less than 1% of hard disk space left, making hibernation impossible. Windows need you to have at least 5% of the hard disk to be free to run properly, which means you need at least 5GB of hard disk space, assuming that there is only C drive.
  
  Please remove any unnecessary programs, backup your files in an external media to free up disk space.
  
  After freeing up hard disk space, your laptop should be able to hibernate and standby again.

  Sorry, so do you mean that I'll have to free my C drive to at least 5 GB of space in order for standby to work, even though my other drives (D and E) still have 11GB and 5 GB respectively?
  
  And also this problem only came recently, when I didn't add any new programs or files which are very big in size.
  
  Edit: My hard disk is partitioned like that:
  
  C drive 17.8GB
  D drive 66.3GB
  E drive 5GB

  Is Windows installed on C drive?
  
  If it is, you will need at least 1GB of hard disk space left.
  
  If it's D drive, you need at least 3.5GB
  
  If you didn't add anything, it shouldn't have 2GB left.

  Yes, windows is installed in my C drive. What I was trying to say is that I already had many programs installed in the past and it was able to go to standby mood.
  
  However, now I cleared some programs already and my C drive has got 3GB of space, but it doesn't help.

  Is there any programs that is currently when you are trying to make your laptop standby? Some programs like Windows Media Player prevents you from going into a standby. Make sure it is not running.

  No, I tried doing the standby after I on my computer. It just doesn't work as well. Are there any other solutions?

  Turn off your internet connection. Your network card could be set to wake on lan. Or do this:
  
  To stop your computer from waking up when your internet / network connection is active, go into Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager, then find the device that controls your connection (e.g. Network Adapters or Modems). Right click on the relevent device and go to Properties > Power Management, then de-select "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby".

  Err, I don't understand what is this? And I'm not using wireless connection. I've connected the laptop to the modem...

  Still, you will need a network card. Follow ditzy's instructions in changing the settings.

  Erm, I think the problem is solved. This problem only exist when my bitcomet is running. No problem when I closed it, although I don't know why.

  Because bitcomet has a preference setting which lets you set whether it allows your comp goes into standby mode if its running or not.
