VIDEO may have killed the radio star, but according to Consumer Affairs it's very lucky someone wasn't injured by exploding portable DVD players.
Consumers are being warned not to use the portable Soniq DVD player because the battery pack has exploded in several cases.
More than 15,000 of the players have been sold through JB Hi-Fi Stores across Australia between June 13, 2005 and July 2, 2006.
Consumer Affairs Minister Jennifer Rankine has asked the retailer to recall the item and replace the dangerous compenent. She said she was surprised someone had not been seriosuly injured by the exploding battery.
"A (South Australian) consumer was using this DVD player when the battery pack exploded, causing a fire and damaging their carpet," Ms Rankine said.
Consumer Affairs knows of three confirmed cases of the exploding DVD players in SA.
