Router Problem

I n my fren just moved in to hdb.
both of us share internet with 1 of this housemate.. so there's 3 users.
Problem is: when this housemate named LT(first user) use internet, i n my fren won't be able to connect to internet at all...
If we unplug LT cable from router, we can use internet very fast (both of us). but once LT plug again, then we both won't be able to connect again... T_T
We use Broadband Router WRT54G --- MaxOnline 4mbps
my ip : 192.168.1.100
fren : 192.168.1.101
coz the starting ip in the router is 192.168.1.100
but why this LT ip is different? LT ip is 192.168.1.20 although we use same router? and his MAC Address can't be detected by some check MAC software..?
I really frustrated with this.. any technical support can help me...?? i beg u all...

he has to set his laptop to allow ip to be assigned via dhcp...

All IP addresses should be dynamic, try not to use static addresses unless you are facing connections problems.
Also check that your MAC addresses are on the allow list in the router. -

LT ip different? 192.168.1.20 seems ok so might nt be the cause.
first, connect ur pc to the network with LT's connected as well.
wats the router's ip? Can you ping the router's ip? -

i oredy manage to get in router ip and see all the settings.. and i also block the LT ip.. but seems he still can manage to use internet...
anyway, he's using desktop PC not laptop.
isit possible if he's set the bandwidth all to himself..? -

He still say u guys deal with linksys ppl.. it's nothing to do with me..
now we already change the password for the router ip... so he can't connect to the router....

there are software which can 'sniff' mac or ip addresses, but you can easily achieve that with the available tools windows os provides.
- First, if he uses the same ip address as yours, your os wld send an alert status saying that there's duplicate ip address.
- Second, cloning mac address could be the cause. You can find out by changing ur mac-address. Just remember to jot down the original value before the change.
Bandwidth all to himself? Nt that i know of. Maybe to an extension where ur connection becomes very slow. -

hmm, if router's assigning him an ip out of the range somehow (weird), try assigning him a static ip within the range, and see if that solves the problem. just sharing what little i know..
linksys's a pretty reliable router brand last i knew. -

linksys's a pretty reliable router brand last i knew.
i try set to static ip instead of DHCP but still the same problem...
if really cannot , then i will do some bad thing.. ex. cut off his LAN cable.

However, you can change IP addresses and MAC addresses. -

That would explain why when you unplug his cable from router you are able to surf again. -

Finally the problem was solved..
Darn he's cloning the MAC address of his PC same with the Router!!!!!!!
finally he changed back the router mac address to default one once we fcuk him up..
Now router problem solved liao.. Yahoo!!! Thanks all forumer here..
