dam this file...help!

as u can see from the above pic... the file remain as an unknown application even when i click open wiff WMV...and also... the file name is (i.dat) not (i) which u see in the back ground...is there any way to remove the .dat name?
i tried to rename .rm after the file but to no avail..
so help.

You have to set folder to view file extensions then can change leh. If not, you are just renaming the file, not its extension.

no leh..i got go properties then go 'open with'. and i did select WMV.

wmv doesnt have the codecs to play it...
go dl vlc player..confirm will work 100%

in fact this file is taken from a VCD disc for ur info.. -
Under the view tab of folder options you have to uncheck hide known file extensions, so it'll display the .dat to let you change it as you please. Of course you know that renaming a *.dat file into *.rm won't automatically make it a *.rm file right?

Open My Computer.
Go to Tools > Folder Options
Select View tab.
Under Hidden files and folders, untick this box:
Hide extensions for known file types.
Click OK.
Close My Computer. Navigate to that file, you should be able to see the whole file name, like whatever.dat
Change that .dat to the correct extension.
Go back to the Tools > Folder Options and tick back the box, if not, you anyhow change things then jialat liao... -

Usually file extensions not recognised by any applications will be displayed in full name, with extension.
.dat files from VCDs, you simply have to change to .mpg and open with WMP
