Google has created a search site without any Google branding to test new features. The site, SearchMash, has a simple blue and white interface with a search bar and an option to click on "popular searches." Once keywords are entered, the results page features links to results running down the left side of the page and the top three image results on the right side.
SearchMash also lets you click on a result and drag and drop it to change the order. Also, when a link is clicked on, the user is offered the option of opening the listings in the current window or a new window, seeing more pages from the Web site or finding similar pages. Additional results are added to the bottom of the original results page by clicking on a "more web pages" link.
With SearchMash, Google "plans to test user interface ideas without Google's brand somehow skewing the tests," Danny Sullivan, editor of Search Engine Watch.com wrote in a blog posting on Monday. "It's pretty slick."

Don't know is it me or the search engine, I can't click for more results. All I get is a JavaScript that goes nowhere. Effectively, I only have 10 search results for me to look at. The same goes for searching images.
There's no options, no anything, no nothing.
That no cursor thing, is really rubbish. It don't even work for goodness sake. At least the normal ones without cursor still works.
The drag and drop feature is nice.
The images at the side also doesn't lag the whole website. Unlike other search engines. Maybe because not many are using yet. -

another, feature is that you can type in your search term without having to select the form box. makes life a lot simpler.
however, i don't understand the application of the drag and drop feature. google says they have a few ideas for it, so i'll just wait until the final product comes out.
overall, i rate this search engine as a great interactive improvement over the old google, but that's where the improvements end, all visual, little upgrading of their functions.
what i would like to see is:
1. better filtering
2. better listing priority (esp without the interference of googlebombers)
3. faster loading
4. keyboard shortcuts, like those found in the current iteration of gmail
5. a more customizable home interface -

I prefer to leave the interface alone. Having to customize it means slow websites. The interface is nice and simple, very nice, although I don't the colours.
I don't understand the drag and drop either. Maybe it's a new searching feature that tells it to remember your search preference or something like that. That would remove the options link. -
Whatever... Firefox is just not compatible with that scrolling feature...
IE works perfectly fine.

customizing the interface means a lot to me, with google being my (as well as most people's) home page. it gives me quicker access to frequented sites and important information such as stocks, news and rss feeds. currently thunderbird does this but i prefer a more compact solution.
though i agree with you that it will probably slow down google, which will be disastrous. -

Like that I have to stick to MSN Live Search already. They have the same feature.
