actually shortcut arrow is rather useful
tells you whether it is an actual file or a link to an file that is saved elsewhere. so you can safely delete a link and the actual file is still around..

1. Start regedit. 2. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTlnkfile 3. Delete the IsShortcut registry value.
You may need to restart Windows XP.
Oh ya and Backup Regisrtry first in case anythng screws up

Avoid messing with the registry unless needed. Tweak UI can easily remove the arrows or change it to something else. Unless Tweak UI don't work, just try the registry part.
