wats the diff for CDs n DVDs?

can someone enlighten me wats the diff in all the whole range of recordable CDs n DVDs out there...
simi dvd-r or r+... blah blah blah -
about 4GB.. CDs are about 700MB, DVDs about 4.7GB
and these days, don't bother.. just go buy a DVD reader or writer which reads and writes everything.. they have them now..
or spend a little bit more, get the dual layer one.. that type, about 8.5GB -

wats re recordable? n if i do is the quality still ther? -
RW = you can rewrite on them.. again, sometimes pointless, because only DVD writers can read the stuff.. DVD readers cannot read it and you have to finalise the RW disc which turns it into a normal DVD disc.. not worth the extra money spent on the RW discs...
the -R, +R, RAM and whatever, was at one time, the manufacturers trying to fight it out... ultimately, they started to make writers read and write on all types of the discs..
like now the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray DVD.. there's another battle brewing.. the HD-DVD is being used by Microsloth for their XBox360 and the Blu-Ray is being used by Sony for their PS3
HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are different tho'.. they are not compatible and probably due to the wavelength of the laser used to read the thing.. or something like that.. -

Basically, if you want less CDs and DVDs at home, get an RW disc. It lets you rewrite lots of times. However, the longer you keep a disc, the more it degrades. So, I can't guarantee if your information is still there 2 years later.Originally posted by skeujin:err ok so wat shd i get? -
