ATI or NVIDIA ???

Plan to upgrade my PC end of the year....... Core 2 Duo + SATA II HDD + MSI M/B + New Casing....... last but not least, Graphic Card.
ATI or Nvidia
Thought of going for a Leadtek Geforce 7900 GS ...... but some friend suggest i get a ATI instead......
Still can't decide
Any suggestion out there -

u better make sure u know the difference between pci e and agp, dont be like one guy he bought pci e card and tried to force it into agp slot and the card circuit connection broke, I saw someone post this on another forum tamade I think it was a geforce 6800gt, at that time it was one of the best cards around, should have given it to me instead of abusing it till it broke.

I think Nvidia has less compatibility issues than ATI...
Alot of the games cannot run on ATI, must keep updating the drivers. Even then some can work, but some cannot.
At least according to my experience. -
Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz (6600), MSI M/B - Neo 965P, 1G of 1066 FSB Ram - Brand??, 80GB primary HDD + 320GB secondary HDD, Creative X-Fi, using back my old DvD burner + DvD rom......... Casing with 450watt power (cheap type).
I prefer Nvidia myself...... using Leadtek Geforce 6600GT.
And yes, I know the difference between AGP & PCIe

ATI card has been found to run slower in certain games compair with Nvidia. Only use ATI once - 9600 XT - few years back.
Not going to use MS Vista till all their problem solve..... using Win XP for the time being, so need not wait for DirectX 10 card -
see if u can buy the custom ATI Xenos...

Custom made doesn't mean better..... Console graphic can't be upgraded. u can't even upgrade the driver....

Anyway, this POST is for which graphic card i should get for my future PC.... not Console.
And please lah, don't ask me to buy 1950 XTX or 7950 GTO..... both cost almost 1K
A Leadtek Geforce 7900 GS cost about $340++ still can lah..... Buget for my new Graphic card on $350 to $370 only.....

That's a newer processor core you are using but the chipset may not be the latest for the mobo (865P). If you want more features (esp HD TV and much up-to-date sound support), you may want a newer chipset. 1-2 gig of DDR-2 ram from a trusted manufacturer won't harm - that's in my configuration for the next build. But with the hard disks and sound card add on i trust that you will want to use at least a better psu. 450 watts is fine but get a 'branded' one. I do not know about graphics card but most of them new ards are power hungry. Even if you add a 500 watts or higher PSU i will say it will only make your build future-proof. Some ATI cards are more affordable and you may want to look into the cards' performances especially when an everlier post indicated that some games do not play well on ATI as compared to nVidia. Some games were tested on either card and proven to work fine or better desired. Also games based on different engines works differntly with ATI/ nVidia. A few things to take note of is the removal of embbeded nVidia grpahics drivers if you were to switch to a different card type and the fact that AMD and ATI are an item now. For me to choose my next card may well be an ATI but until my next build i will hav to be keep a bre ast of the lateest news with the 2 graphics card chip vendors. -

i used numerous models of both before, and seriously, unless you are going for high-end or budget cards, they don't really differ much from one another.

Easy to say what model also. You give us your motherboard specs first. The one you intend to buy.
Some motherboards are weird. Have either PCI slots or AGP slots only. -
Problem is some games will require DirectX 10 and you will have little choice but to install Vista unless Microsoft decides to also release DirectX 10 for XP. Directx 10 games looked pretty impressive, again proving PC graphics are still ahead of console graphics, (but alot more expensive).

Correction: They have Directx 9 versions of the game so I guess Directx 10 is not a requirement for most of them, just that u won't see the DirectX 10 effects. -
