Corrupted downloads...

Lately I've been trying to install firefox, windows live messenger and skype but once i've successfully downloaded their .exe installers, an error messege came out saying the file was currupted... I was informed from the shop that I got back my pc from repair that there is a "problem" with my memory RAM... Are they linked in any way...?
This is getting to be a real headache... I spent near $100++ on spyware removal, heatsink replacement, harddisc warranty replacement and re-installing a new OS... All these started when I sent my com for the spyware removal and got it back 3 days later in a new shop... after that, all these hardware non-sense started... I got a feeling that my com was sabotaged... -

what U mean by "U got back ur PC in a new shop"?
shop shifted location while ur PC is still with them?
since the shop told U that there is a problem with ur RAM...U got ask them what's the exact problem?cos ur problem can be due to HDD or RAM...I presume U dont have an extra piece of RAM to troubleshoot? -
Right click the file you have downloaded and select Properties. What is the file size? Is it the same as what the website states?
Also try this: don't use DAP. Try downloading it normally without DAP. Is the file still corrupted? -
There is a new shop over at my place.... I can't tell ya the name for liable reasons... It just opened up, not exactly a PC shop but is a liason of one... when my com was infected with a spyware, I thought of bringing it to a trusted shop at Boon Lay shopping centre but was adviced by my parent to try the new shop since its closer... they took my PC for spyware removal for 3 day and I came back without a problem...Originally posted by Xcert:spyware removal and reinstallation of OS...then might as well format ur PC and save ur money for the spyware removal...right?

What's the shop name? They don't sound like they are professionals at all. The chances of a RAM fault and corrupted downloads are low. Most corrupted downloads happen because it is incomplete, due to network problems or files corrupting it. Some downloaders have the ability to split the file into smaller sizes for faster downloading, but don't have the ability to merge them back, causing corruption. That's why I suggested downloading normally without using DAP to be sure that it isn't a software problem.
If there's a need to test the hardware, try either Microsoft's website or Memtest86.
There might also be some problems with the hard disk as well. It's very hard to tell. If memory test shows that RAM is OK, you might need to reformat and reinstall Windows. If after reinstalling Windows the same problem occurs, then they have spoilt the hard disk as well. -

err...brand new HDD doesnt mean no problems hor...I am sure folks here have experienced buying a new HDD from a shop...most likely from Sim Lim and then finding out that its full of bad sectors and have to go back Sim Lim for 1-2-1 exchange...so I suggest U test it out.Originally posted by MohamedF:Thanks... but there shouldn't be any problem with my hard disc... Anyway, we aren't doubting AceCom. If there's any problems, do a reinstallation of Windows to double check. A clean Windows will not give you problems.
