HDD problem, i think

my PC has this tendency to suddenly have this "click" sound and it seems like something has shut down.
even now as i format my PC, i'm looking at the blue screen and it says 56% formatted, i hear the click... but it continues.
i have no idea where the hell the click comes from!!!!
the click sounds like when u just turn on your computer, and u hear everything starting up.

It's either the CD drive or the HDD.
If it's the CD drive, it might damage your XP CD as well.
It's hard to know if it's the HDD, until you start running Windows without any CD inside the CD drive. -
previously it kep clicking and hanging.
so i guess that narrows it down to the harddisk eh?
but i wonder if the graphics card has a bit to play in it. -
I have never heard of graphics card having a clicking sound.
Looks pretty much like a hard disk problem.
If it's a graphics card problem, you won't be able to start up your PC and it might beep instead. -

Nothing to do with Windows. Just that the parts need to retire liao, after working faithfully for some time.

I think it might be your hard disk going to give way liao .. best to back up first, just in case ur hdd crash unexpectedly.
I have experienced the clicking sound from my hdd before... wonder if the brand of the hdd was from Maxtor -

primary seagate.
i would say the seagate feels more problem free -

i'm re-installing windows.
bad thing is that i can't make my maxtor a primary harddisk.
i am SO backwards with this.
the last time i knew about computers was when there was DOS!!!! -

I strongly agree that Seagate is more reliable. I think my old Maxtor hard disk has crashed.
But on the other side, Maxtor and Seagate are under a single organisation, even the packaging is almost the same, maybe they are internally the same....
