external hard disk - Astone

My external hard disk - Astone ( 60 G ) suddenly prompt me to format. A check in the properties show "0" . Does that mean all my data there is gone? Can I retreive it ? If can , how ?

Look like not much hope... yes, it is using USB. I think the computer can detect. The screen will show "E" drive. When I try to click it, it prompt me if I want to format. Then I right click to check property. It show "0" bytes.Originally posted by ORIGAMIST: -

Yup. Don't start the format first. Do you have any spare thumbdrive? If yes, just copy any files you want into that thumbdrive. this is what happen when u don't do a proper eject of the hard disk whenever u use it to back up data.? did u ever click on the green arrow on the bottom right corner of your desktop and choose 'eject E-drive'? i bet not or u did not even wait for a message prompt 'it is now safe to remove your mass storage device...' before plugging out your usb cable and powering off your ext hard disk.

I always ensure that this procedure is done. I had read somewhere that if this is not done, the computer may be affected too beside the external drive. In fact, I have been nagging my staff for not doing that. They are finding me irritating over the removal of external drive.
