your target the 320GB hdd, is it a 2.5" or 3.5" internal one? if its an internal 3.5" SATA II u aiming why not go for tthe 400GB or 500GB ones since the pricing sweet spot is at these 2 ranges for cost per GB.Originally posted by Xcert:1.320GB HDD
2.Antivirus software
3.Digital Camera/Videocam
4.PCI Wireless LAN Card
think that's about it...

plans not concrete yet....current situation is that my laptop's 80GB is filling up fast and I need to have external storage...my internet is connected thru LAN(only 1 RJ45 jack onboard) so either I link up the new HDD with a new PCMCIA card or I use USB2.0 to connect to my laptop...Originally posted by pipipopo:your target the 320GB hdd, is it a 2.5" or 3.5" internal one? if its an internal 3.5" SATA II u aiming why not go for tthe 400GB or 500GB ones since the pricing sweet spot is at these 2 ranges for cost per GB.
Wow..... VAIO is one of the best looking Notebook money can buyOriginally posted by FireIce:me maybe can consider VAIO instead of thinkpad now
hehehehehehhe
if u concern about pricing then a ext USB2.0 3.5" should work well for you. if your notebook's not having the high speed USB2.0 then may have to get expansion PCMIA card for that. seems like most ext hdd are high speed USB2.0 now.Originally posted by Xcert:plans not concrete yet....current situation is that my laptop's 80GB is filling up fast and I need to have external storage...my internet is connected thru LAN(only 1 RJ45 jack onboard) so either I link up the new HDD with a new PCMCIA card or I use USB2.0 to connect to my laptop...
I am more inclined to use LAN for connection since LAN transfer speed is faster than USB2.0(pls correct me if I am wrong) but it would make my setup complicated.
as for the mode of transfer within the enclosure itself...would be looking out for SATA but it seem like only IDE enclosures come with LAN connection at the moment...they are also not cheap....100++ bucks...so still considering the kind of HDD I want...size-wise I am pretty easy on it...its how-to-connect-to-my-laptop part that is giving me the headache...
Let me see... I think it's the 2000 version of Symantec. Computer is slow... no doubt... but still way better when I tested 2003 version. 2003 slows it to such an extent that it took 15 minutes to start up a computer.Originally posted by Ito_^:how old is ur old?
i was using symantec client v3.. ended up eating up my lappy resources until lag like siao. probably due to some virus-which-i-now-forgot-the-name. after removing le, it continued to lag my system.
now i trying out panda, so far so good.. but only for a few days so far.

any idea how to check if my laptop is using this High speed USB2.0?I know my USB is 2.0...not sure about the High Speed.Originally posted by pipipopo:if u concern about pricing then a ext USB2.0 3.5" should work well for you. if your notebook's not having the high speed USB2.0 then may have to get expansion PCMIA card for that. seems like most ext hdd are high speed USB2.0 now.
