Cable broadband or Dedicated ADSL broadband faster?

Until now I still haven't found an accurate answer.
My Poly lecturer told us ADSL should be faster than Cable, bcos they are using dedicated network.
But Starhub saying Partly dedicated is hardly dedicated
'Dedicated' access is only a small part of a shared network, and cannot guarantee consistent speed, as speed depends a lot on traffic on the Internet.
Which one is true? -

I jump from Starhub to SingNet because every fri & sat night, my cable speed drop to a crawl..... too many people using around my area. Dedicated ADSL might not be 'that' dedicated...... but speed on the Avg is largly the same on most day or night.
So, i perfer ADSL/DSL....... -

If there's heavy traffic on the internet, then every one will be affected i believe, not just Singtel.
At least you get constant speed on Singtel, even though you can't reach the potentially higher speeds as offered by Starhub.
Its like mp3 files, whether you prefer CBR or VBR files. -
there are many factors
1) your computing hardware and software
2) then your ISP and plans and cable connection type
3) the remote servers and their traffic conditions at the time when you try to access it
for point #2, just picture ADSL as the smaller roads in singapore and cable as the expressway. u go by exressway faster than smaller or main roads but when traffic jam, expressway also slow. git it? -
I think is see your luck on how many people using that cable at the moment.
If no one use of coz yours is the fastest...
Singnet should offer a service to check how many cable user in that area. If got alot in that area then they sure go and subscribe starhub one.
