Morever, in Sg where many have aircon in room and office,
I personally also think that the heat generated by PCs
further increase the aircon bills.
I got so fed up by the heat generated by my desktop
that i start using my lappy for most of the time now.
And I suggest the following methods to save power:
1) Use laptop or those new Desktop PC w mobile pentium.
Eg Imac mini and the new shuttle SFF PC w mobile chips
2) Use 2.5" Harddisk instead of 3.5 inch for your desktop
I'm intending to do that soon. Quieter too.
A 2.5" peak at around 2.5W,
whereas 3.5" 7200rpm HDD can idle at 10-15W and peak at 20-25W.
(if i remember correctly)
3) Under-clock your Pentium/AMD.
Do we really need those power for word processor and web browsing???
Under-clocking your PC by 30 percent and you will save 50 percent
power on the CPU (roughly), and you wont notice the difference
in performance, unless you play games or do intensive video/photo editing.
4) Use Duo core chips. Supposely lower power.
5) Do not leave your PC on 24/7.
cheers
