Window hang when during boot up

  What's the problem?
  
  Whenever I try to boot my PC, it always hang during the blue screen of my Window at my login screen. (Btw I'm using Win 2K). Subsequently, I need to reboot 4-5 times before my window is booted up successfully.
  
  I'm suspecting it might be a hardware problem such as Graphic Card or Ram. This problem has been become more serious now as compare to 3-4 months ago.
  
  Previously, I may only need to reboot 2-3 times to boot my PC, but right now, I feel the frequency of my PC being hung has increased.
  
  Can someone verify if it's a hardware or software problem?
  
  It's quite unlikely it may be due to spyware, though there may be some possiblity. As I have formatted my PC before, after my PC was infected some deadly virus, however the problem returned after some time.

  Reformat PC will help trust me...i always do that but it is not advisable to do it frequent...

  Reformat and reinstall.
  
  If it happens again, it's due to hardware, most likely the hard disk.

  If u think its RAM or graphics card problem maybe can go SLS shops, try the new hardware there,ask the guy fit in for you.If still cannot then reformat.If can jus buy yr new hardwarre

  if u reformat very unsmooth..might b hard disk alot of bad sector..need to change liao..btw..how long is ur hard disk?

  if it's quite old, don't bother to change parts la, cause i once did it b4 on my desk. Cd rom spoil, change it, then after that ram spoil, then change again. worst still, still lag and finally monitor spoil...
  
  i can't be bothered but to get another computer. faster, more reliable and cheaper in the long run

  hmmm.... sounds like RAM problem maybe you can try downloading Memtest and make it into a bootable floppy and run it to check if the RAM is the real culprit

  It's quite a tricky issue here as the problem only occurs unroutinely.
  
  My PCs don't always hang, when it hangs, it's only during startup.
  I have scan my hard disk for any bad sectors, so far didn't detect any errors. I believe my hard disk is still working fine.
  
  I think I will do the ram test as suggested, if got any suggestions, pls bring them in here.

  Any chance you can post a screenshot of the BSOD or write down what it says?it may help in solving the problem

  why my windows suddenly overnight boots alot slower, i get the "windows is starting up" but last time it wasnt shown.
  my comp oso load everything slower, under msconfig, normal startup was checked, AVG and ad adware found nothing. after disk cleanup, defragment, it is still slowing down wad is wrong any one noes?and my IE windows will auto close and the XP "error sound" will be played and no message was shown, online crash still happens after i close toolbar which are not needed. help, i have no money if it was beyond my ability to fix it

  Maybe you can try repairing windows or reformatting?

  The problem exist during startup or login screen, does not display any DSOD.
