Need help with my Core 2 Duo system

Hi...... having some problem with my system.
When installing games..... half way it hangs. No care if game from JB or the real stuff...... took me 5 try before Brother in Arms - Earn in blood can be installed. Thought it is a one off thing.....
Try Far Cry just now..... again this is not a JB edition game, byut the real stuff. Same problem...... half way, then hang.
Not sure if it is a winXP problem (XP from JB) or Hardware problem..... Core 2 Duo not known to the games........ Before i change to core 2.... both game runs without problem on the same (JB) winXP.
Not much problem with programs.... PowerDvD, winamps, photoshops etc. Just games........
Anyone heard of such problem
Do you think it is due to the 2 core Thinking of reformating my HDD and start all over again....... Pls help...... -

alternatively...remove your pc casing and if it doesn't hang, could be heat issue. -

CPU temp - not more than 42 deg
My friend suggest swapping the ram to another slot...... not sure what that will do
Graphic Card is Nividia Geforce 7900GS...... using the PCIe slot..... no other slot can use...... -

if its overheating issue then why does it only happen in the misdt of installation??

Not sure...... but CPU and Sys temp is going crazy...... already installed 2 8cm side fan to blow air into the system.... tried to blow out last night...... CPU temp still rise even though sys temp remain below 39deg...... 40-42deg for CPU is too much. Now hope that air in will reduce heat in sys and CPU..... May be buying a better CPU cooler tomorr.

Actually not really true la, the core 2 chips are WAY COOLER than the previous pentium 4s and pentium Ds.Even the original heatsink is more than enough if you don't overclock

Hi.... as i am writing this..... Sys temp - 42deg. CPU temp - 34deg. Been surfing the net for about an hour.
Bought 2x 8cm CoolerMaster fan. At 1st use them to draw air out...... sys temp when down but CPU temp when up.
Now use the fan to draw air in...... as can see, CPU temp is at good level while Sys temp is up.
To solve the problem..... Will connect one fan (the 1 facing the CPU) draw air in, one out (the 1 facing the Graphic card).....
Hopeful will solve the Heat problem. Need not buy a new CPU cooler. -

Just swop out my casing low power rear sys fan (air out). Replace with a SilverStone high power 12cm fan.... 2400RPM max. Very nosiy at full speed but i only run it at around 1600RPM. Sys temp have remain at 37deg for about 30min under now load.... unlike 41deg yesterday.
For the CPU..... a funnel is added to the 8cm fan on the side panel. It direct the air towards the CPU cooler..... CPU have remain at a cool 31deg. at gaming, 35-37deg. The other 8cm fan now blow hot air out from the graphic card.
So far everything seems ok....... test some more to confirm.... -

Get a water cooling system!!
Use a 1.3cm diameter tube...
So no need clean reservoir!! -
Water system scare leak lah....... one editior of Tom's Hardware Gulid got his system cock up due to a leak......... Fan cooling is as much as i can do....
PC have be up and running since 1800hrs...... now 2145hrs.
Sys temp - 38deg (fan running at 1750RPM)
CPU temp - 31deg
Avg sys temp - 38-39deg
Avg CPU temp - 33-36deg
As long as both below 40deg most of the time..... me is happy . Not planning to overclock at all. -

how to know the temperature? is there some sort of prompt or command to press?
or use the thermometer?

My Gigabyte M/B comes with this program called Easy Tune 5..... it is used to overclock the system. It also have a temp senser on the M/B itself. Tells you the temp of CPU and temp inside the casing....... plus at what speed the fan (sysem or cpu) is running......
