Why can't i start up normally?

  My cousin just gave me her old com, running on XP home edition.
  
  Whenever i on it, it will reach a screen which has some options on how to start windows. Eg. Safe mode, Safemode with networkin and normally.
  
  However, whenever i chose to start normally, the com stops loading after the wndows xp loading page
  
  Have no problem on safe mode though, what the f shld i do?

  go for a format + re-installation since it's 1st day of 2007...

  HEY I GOT EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY OTHER PC TOO!!
  
  i tried a repair with the window cd but also no use.. someone pls advise!!

  my cousin still finding her recovery cd ...and yes i have done the scans already, no problem

  Should be corrupted system files. First step i suggest is get a XP Cd and repair the system files.Or if u wana deleter her contents in her com jus do a clean install.

  Clean install is a suggested method in my opinion.

  I usually encounter such problem due to an imporper shut down. If we can get the winXP CD to perform possible repair it will save lots of trouble having to format.
  
  Usually when i am at the wit's end, formatting is what everyone can do coz it fixes 99.9 percent of all problems.

  As what other suggest go do a clean format, if still cannot, i suspect it might be that partition on that harddisk is failing liao.

  for my case i cant even go into safe mode manz. computer self reboots upon reaching the xp loading page....
  
  any solutions?
  i tried a repair but no able to start still...
  
  anyway i can retrieve my data inside?

  o.O so u mean u want your cousin's data?
  
  Then go get a Xp cd, put it into your disk drive immediately when u power up your com and the installation/repairing of system files should start.Unless the top ur boot priority as set in BIOS is not boot via CD drive

  could be RAM problem,try format again instead of reparing. dl and run memtest86 using a bootable floppy.If you want to recover your data, take out the harddisk and put into another com, set the jumpers(refer to your harddisk manual) to be the slave driver if your hardisk uses those IDE(long ribbon cables).then start transferring.

  no i dun wan my cousin's data and that can be solved when i enter safe mode...
  
  she found the recovery cd already but i gt no time to take from her, i dun tink it comes with a XP cd, can still repair the files?

  no XP cd can use pirated one?

  Blue part: This is a sign that Windows did not shut down properly and corrupted some files. This resulted in you can't load Windows in Normal Mode, most likely some important files for loading things normally.
  
  Since Safe Mode isn't affected, you can try repairing XP. I did posted about reinstalling without reformatting here.
  
  lpx88's solution will work too, but if it didn't, try the one I posted. This will restore all Windows files.

  Recovery CD is used to recover the PC back to the default settings, so you can use the Recovery CD.

  Thks for the advise...now i'm downloading XP while waiting for the recovery CD .....whichever comes first then i try
  
  Bittorrent is kind of slow man..... cant even hit 3.0 kbps when i'm using starhub

  hmm.. i have this option to go into safe mode too.. however same thing happens.. it reboot itself again once into the window xp loading page..

  Guess mine is pretty serious...

  Not serious enough to reformat.
  
  This thread teaches you how to reinstall everything without reformatting the PC, thus no files will be lost. All Windows files will be replaced, and is always the last method if nothing works.
  
  Try it and see if it works for you.

  Clean install = format the drive, then install the OS.
  
  In this case XP CD is needed.
  
  Reset laptop... just use Repair. If repair fails, look at the links I've provided in this thread.

  XP are for noobs, trust me. It's the easiest operating system that is ever produced.
  
  Reformat and reinstall is the way to go spyware scarred PCs.
