no sound driver?!

  juz reformatted my com.
  
  all's fine except for the audio driver.
  
  the volume icon also disappeared from the tray at the bottom right.
  
  tried to look for downloads online but to no avail.
  
  anyone can help?

  whats ur audio driver name?

  it says no audio device...
  
  i've got the windows XP installation cd though..
  
  dun think i got the installer for the audio card de..
  
  can the latter be found in the cd?

  i used to have a program which can read the model of your drivers
  
  so that easier for you to search

  Do you use a sound card or is it the audio on-board?
  
  If it's on board, it should be installed by Windows already.
  
  Try going to Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio. In the Volume tab, make sure Place volume icon in task bar box is ticked.
  
  If you are using a sound card, you need to install drivers for it. It usually comes in a CD. Look at your receipt for more info.

  The latter drivers can't be found in the CD unless it's some of the older drivers. My old Creative drivers are, so I don't have to search for them online. If it's rather new, use your CD instead... or go online to download the drivers.

  it is a diagnostic utitlity
  
  after downloading and installation of the program
  
  under the Hardware tab
  
  Audio Devices
  
  look for device name

  Can you please download Belarc Advisor, install it and tell me what does it say about your system hardware?
  
  It takes a while though, so be patient.
  
  When it's done, IE will open.
  
  Look under Multimedia and tell me what things are in that category.
