also depends on your kind of needs, that will determine how much performance or type of laptop you use....e.g.
you need:
1). portability? in that cas, low power consumption and light and thin
2). performance based? in that case, more processing speed and more ram
3). gaming needs?
4). just to surf web and type reports?
etc...buy a laptop that suits your needs....
btw, branded stuff may not be good stuffs hor...

If you are going to use it to store music, videos, designing stuffs, etc, I would recommend a big storage space, something above 80GB.
If it's just for backing up purposes, and you don't have much stuffs to backup, 80GB will do. -

i see drives die 1 month after buying..
i've seen drives survives for 14 years
well... if u buy the portable hdd, u usually have a minimum of 3 years warrenty... Maxtor seagate and Seagate one is 5 years. maybe cos they predict theirs could last longer?
factors which could lessen hard drive lifespan:
movment/shock
on and off the hard disk too much
24/7 reading and writing of hard disk -
