Advise needed on Desktop

I am planning to replace my desktop at home, which i brought like some 8 years ago.
Which brand should I be looking at?
I dunno if there has been any similar post before. If there is, pls direct me. thanks. -
i have thot of assembling ones, but no warranty for those, right?

i dun want the hassle of having to go to individual parts manufactures to solve the problem -

Most offices will choose HP and IBM for their long lasting factor. Those who want it cheap go for Dell (but ultimately finds their customer service sucks great time).
In between, there's Asus and Acer. I can't tell for Asus, but Acer's customer service is good enough. -

80GB is the bare minimum these days, but enough to survive. -
Why not check the price at Sim Lim Square, their prices are much more competitive if you have the time to go down personally.
You can customise your specifications with the vendor per se. -
For convience, go for Dell or HP cause everything under warranty.

Graphic>>make sure not using onboard one because it will eat
up your memory size
Ram >> Go for 1GB to 4GB Best.
CPU >> Intel D core 3.2GB. If can wait go for Intel Quar core. -

computer electronics product depreciate its value approx by 1/2 every year until a stable point. so not a good choice to buy a high end computer since u are using to play games which are rather medium graphics.Originally posted by Mospeada:

since u wish to buy ready made computers which plays dvd games, 1gig RAM is safe for u.. infact, 512 ram can play also..and also, the processor.. Duo core and Duo core 2 only have a slight speed difference.. but then their price difference is like say... $200 why not just let the computer which uses duo core to load 1.5 seconds more than the duo core 2 computer?
to summarise all, dont fall into trap which is what u want. but instead, stick it with what u need.
ready made computers with 17 inch LCD screen can be bought below $1000. their performance difference between a much higher end computers (eg $1400) is small..
