How To Process And Improve Audio?

  Hi guys,
  
  Im wondering how to process and improve audio?
  
  Like for instance, if sometimes there is noise/ interference.
  
  Or if the audio capture is from low-quality source and it comes with too high or too low sounds, frequency, etc.
  
  Any recommendation for any software?
  
  I use VirtualDubMod for video processing, it has a lot of video filters, but only a few audio filters, and I dont think they can be used to clean up/ improve audio.

  You can try MMConvert (go SourceForge and look for it).
  
  Although it is basically an audio conversion program, it does have audio filters.
  
  Just a warning though, if you don't use it properly, all your audio stuff will be screwed up. I screwed up mine when I didn't configure properly. It resulted in my audio files sounding hollow (like you are hitting on some hollow space).
  
  I had to uninstall and reinstall and reconfigure it again before my audio files work properly.

  I usually use Adobe Audition (free, if you know how ) and use filters like Click/Pop Eliminator, Hiss Reduction and Noise Reduction.
  
  If the volume is too soft or too loud, try looking for an effect called Amplitude Normalize.
  
  You'll have to try out the various filters, I don't usually go to the extent of adjusting frequency and stuff. If it sounds too hollow, try looking for something along the line of HighPass or LowPass.
