  some colleagues of my dad regretted upgrading to vista for the free starhub laptops.

  Mac OS X has a authentication thingy too but can be 'turn off' via the System Preferences. It's not overly here and there. It is useful in instances where the computer is shared or prevent unauthorised installation of software/malware/spyware/etc.

  if you are on a budget and have a good monitor already, try the Mac Mini...
  
  but best to look first.. go to Orchard Cineleisure.. the iShop there is less crowded and bigger than Applecentre at Wheelock

  It's about $600 extra.
  
  Not alot for the difference you see and upgrade of specs.
