actually i wanna ask..my parents recently(2 days ago) subscribe to starhub

i check my speed it is always at 5k+..sometimes even worse..3k+
btw im living on the ground floor(1st floor) will it affect the speed..and btw if my speed is 12mbps means the speed test will always show? or its normal to show 5k speed??[/url] -
The speed will always not match what you sign up. Reason being, internet speeds fluctuate.
Being on the first floor doesn't help either, although logically, you are nearly to the cables, your speeds should be faster.
Technically, it doesn't work this way.
Also, reality don't always go with theory. -
weird but my friend is 5mb de and everytime he check will have 5.7k++ me everytime i check will have 3k-5k and my plan is 12mb..so can you tel me is it weird to have a speed like mine or did they give me wrong plan..cause got one plan is 5mb but cheaper

Are you using wireless or ?
If you are using wireless, did you secure your network ? If no, someone might be leeching on your network, resulting in a loss of bandwith. That's why the Speedtest results are poor. -
no i did not only for now..but when i use the direct connection way with the line from my cpu to modem thing the speed sometimes will spike from 4k to 5k then drop to 3k..weird weird one..do you know how to explain why issit so slow T_TOriginally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Are you using wireless or ?

Hmm... I'm thinking of your hardware. Hardware plays a part in limiting connections to certain speeds.
Before signing up for this new plan, do you already have internet?
If yes, for how long?
As for the spiking thing, how many PCs do you have at home? Do they share the connection as well? -
yeh i have but that one very slow de connection speed so i change to new one and is like no much diff load page darn slow and alot of things and the old internet is by singnet i think is 512k de have it for around 1year++ liao we planning to cancel it after the date of the contract pass which is at march(2 years contract) i got like 2 pc one notebook the pc im using now is using the starhub connection and the notebook no one using now and the 2nd computer is using the singtel connection now in the living room..no com sharing connection..btw i need to clear up one more thing also..notebook type of com use what kind of connection? and why when someone uses the notebook in the 2nd room beside my room i got NO connection at all but i can play maple but i cant surf net AT ALL..can is can but when loading google.com it takes forever like 10mins for it to finish loadingOriginally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Hmm... Hmm... looks like hardware isn't a problem, since 2 years ago the hardware is able to support higher speeds.
I'm wondering if using Starhub and Singtel would actually split the connections (as in causing the speeds to half, since 2 PCs are connected to the Net right now).
Starhub doesn't have a dedicated bandwith, so if at any one time more than PC is connected to the Net, the bandwith would be lowered, causing the speed to lower as well.
In this case, surfing speeds of 3k to 5k is normal.
Your second question - notebook uses both wired and wireless connections. Wireless when you plan to move around and connect to the wireless hotspots around Singapore. Wired is when you are at home or if you have no wireless products.
Third question - Not really sure, could be due to having 2 ISPs again. Try disconnecting from one of the ISP and see what happens. -
